LOVE, WHICH IS WHAT I AM, REQUIRES NO DEFENSES

Love, which is what I am, requires no defenses3

Help me to look beyond the world that believes in defense and attack. And help me remind myself that anytime I defend myself from another person’s verbal attack, I am actually attacking that person.

Help me live this day in defenselessness, letting the purity of my love be felt by all. Let me remind myself that when I know that my true identity is love I will also know that nothing can truly hurt me.

I am determined that on this day I will follow a path of love and defenselessness, neither attacking nor defending. Remind me to hold everyone’s heart, including my own, gently.

Example:

I am writing this lesson while Diane and I are on a lecture tour in Australia. During this trip I was reminded of a previous lecture tour in this country. It was at that time that I had a most important lesson for learning the power of defenselessness.

On my previous tour I was talking about my book Love Is Letting Go of Fear, which had just been published in Australia. I was being interviewed by a radio talk show host who obviously did not like my book. He was attacking me all over the place.

After several minutes of this, I went into automatic ego mode and was tempted to defend myself and attack him right back. Then I remembered the principles of Attitudinal Healing, and decided that he must be coming from a place of fear. I decided to send him love, to be defenseless, and not be concerned about whether his behavior changed or not.
